Rodeos in Texas are not purely entertainment but they are part of its Texan heritage for people gathering to either make or relive some memories. However, it is a part of a criteria in your life that involves you buying boots and feeling like a cowboy for a day or for a weekend. If you want to experience a rodeo and have a great time with others, here are my three selected events that I highly recommend for you to go at least once in your lifetime:
Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is the massive, three-week extravaganza that consists of bull-riding, bronco riding, roping, rodeo fair rides, a petting zoo and concerts, ranging from your favorite country artists to rock n’ roll bands to the Latino band groups. Its attendance has topped around 2.5 million people each year as participants can head out to solely have a good time to relax and enjoy the BBQ and experience a taste of the ranch life. This annual rodeo in March are held at NRG Stadium, while the fair and other events are held in the parking lot and several nearby buildings.
San Antonio Rodeo and Stock Show
When founded in 1950, the San Antonio Rodeo and Stock Show is one of the most popular and events in the country, which attracts a million people annually. The organization that hold the event supports Texas youth education and agriculture and most of the expenses go to scholarships, grants, awards that benefit the great young minds of today. As this rodeo has its events such as bull riding, saddle bronc riding and team roping, there is an event for kids in which they have to ride a sheep for at least six seconds and a Horse Education Center to provide expert tips to take care of a horse. The musical concerts range from your favorite country artists like Reba McEntire to the occasional rock n’roll bands such as Journey to please your sights and ears.
Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo
This Austin-based event has the standard rodeo events but the Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo has competitive events such as pig races, a youth art show and a barbecue cook-off. The family-friendly event offers something for everyone as this rodeo offers Austin’s largest carnival complete with rides, games and fair food favorites. Even for its rodeo events, the two top-tier athletes travel to the rodeo to compete against each other for the coveted title of Champion. Fans can enjoy a fun time but also can enjoy an action-packed competition full of bull-riding and Mutton Bustin’.
Spring is here! It’s that time of the year when we’re all over the colder weather and the spring forward time change, while it makes us sleepy for about a week, gifts us with plenty of daylight to enjoy some outside time after work and school. This is also the time when flowers start blooming and grass gets greener. If you’re lucky enough to live in Texas then you know this means blue bonnets galore.
With multicolor blooms all over to serve as a background, spring time is a perfect opportunity to take family photos and today’s blog post will help you with two ways on how to pick out your whole family ensemble.
Identical mother daughter and father son outfits may be a little 90s, but they’re also adorable, so we suggest you just go for it. Cinch and Roper are two brands that offer matching shirts for adults and kids.
Another way to outfit your family for photos is to choose a color scheme and work around it. Not everyone has to wear the same color. The point is for everyone to match as a whole.
For example, in the photos below the boy’s solid shirt brings out the red in the men’s shirt. The men’s shirt colors match the woman’s skirt, and the little girl’s dress soften’s everyone’s look by adding a solid piece in a lighter color.
For another example below, the man shirt and little girl’s dress match the little boy’s main color, and the woman’s dress brings out the small colored details of the man’s shirt.
Regardless of what you pick for your family, the most important factor is to stay true to who you are as a family. Don’t dress up super formal if you’re more laid back people. Don’t force smiles or poses that don’t reflect you. These photos should reflect who you are. After all their main objective is to create memories, and those memories should be true.
By now, you know that Chicken touts himself as the be-all and end-all authority on all things cowboy. When I do try to get my two cents in from time to time, he never tires of telling me, “You don’t have the sense god gave a rubber-soled boot.”
But I’ve been doing a little reconnoitering of my own, and on closer inspection of some of the fine men’s boots from Ariat, I’ve discovered there’s plenty of sense in a rubber-soled boot. Along with top-of-the-mark Duratread rubber soles (a carbon rubber outsole compound formulated for superior durability and performance that’s built to withstand the harsh acids of the barnyard as well as an extreme range of conditions and temperatures), many of Ariat’s boots feature something called Advanced Torque Stability (ATS®), which is an exclusive technology that ensures ranchers, riggers, and cowboys maximum stability, comfort, and support.

A hardworking chicken like myself really appreciates all the new fire-retardant apparel lines on the market. The latest? Ariat FR Apparel — a line so stylish that you might expect Chihuahua to be writing this blog post instead. Don’t get me wrong–I think looks are important–but what I really love about the Ariat FR line is its quality.

Y’all know my weakness: Western boots. Especially cowgirl boots. I have a “the more, the merrier” policy when it comes to ladies’ footwear–as long as the boots are top quality. That’s why I’m excited to announce that Ariat now has a lovely line of ladies’ Western footwear.

If you’ve been in the Western wear game for long, then you’ve heard of Ariat. This footwear and apparel company was founded in 1993 specifically for equestrian athletes. But Ariat is so much more than that now − they’ve got great work clothes, fashionable jeans, and performance footwear for both English and Western riders. Just 20 years after its founding, Ariat is the number one equestrian footwear brand in America. Here’s a little bit more about what makes them so great.
