Wearing cowboy boots with your wedding dress is a trend that has stuck for a while now. It’s no longer a novelty like it used to be, but it is still a gorgeous and smart choice for many women. Below we suggest some options for the big day.

Your Something blue

Wearing boots that are all blue or just have small blue details are a really fun way to incorporate your something blue into your bridal ensemble. The color can be as strong or soft as you’d like to match the style of your dress or wedding.

Choosing your family photo outfits.

Spring is here! It’s that time of the year when we’re all over the colder weather and the spring forward time change, while it makes us sleepy for about a week, gifts us with plenty of daylight to enjoy some outside time after work and school. This is also the time when flowers start blooming and grass gets greener. If you’re lucky enough to live in Texas then you know this means blue bonnets galore.

With multicolor blooms all over to serve as a background, spring time is a perfect opportunity to take family photos and today’s blog post will help you with two ways on how to pick out your whole family ensemble.

Matchy Matchy

Identical mother daughter and father son outfits may be a little 90s, but they’re also adorable, so we suggest you just go for it. Cinch and Roper are two brands that offer matching shirts for adults and kids.

Color scheme

Another way to outfit your family for photos is to choose a color scheme and work around it. Not everyone has to wear the same color. The point is for everyone to match as a whole.

For example, in the photos below the boy’s solid shirt brings out the red in the men’s shirt. The men’s shirt colors match the woman’s skirt, and the little girl’s dress soften’s everyone’s look by adding a solid piece in a lighter color.

For another example below, the man shirt and little girl’s dress match the little boy’s main color, and the woman’s dress brings out the small colored details of the man’s shirt.

Regardless of what you pick for your family, the most important factor is to stay true to who you are as a family. Don’t dress up super formal if you’re more laid back people. Don’t force smiles or poses that don’t reflect you. These photos should reflect who you are. After all their main objective is to create memories, and those memories should be true.

Travel in Style

Between the holidays, NFR, and all the upcoming world renowned Rodeos, including our very own Houston Livestock Show, the very last and very first months of the year are pretty busy traveling months for many.

Keeping your clothes and boots looking sharp after spending so many hours in luggage can be challenging. Some people feel limited to the amount of boots they can travel with because boots and hats are not the easiest to pack, but that should never keep you from traveling in style.

Today we’re sharing some of our best tips on how to pack to best maximize your luggage space and ensure nothing stops you from taking your favorite pieces with you.

Packing Clothes:

Nothing dampers your travel spirit like opening your luggage upon arrival and finding your previously neatly ironed shirts and jeans completely wrinkled. The best way to pack clothing to prevent ruining your freshly ironed items is to roll them. Fold shirts and jeans like you normally would, but once they are folded, slowly and carefully roll them and pack them as rolls. This will save space and hopefully help your clothes stay looking sharp.

Packing boots:

If you have a very special pair of boots you would rather carry separately to16685_31573disp
protect them from any scratches or damage, your best bet are boot carriers. Whether you prefer short or tall boots, there are carriers to fill either style. These normally fit only one pair of boots, which guarantees no other items (belts, toiletries, etc) can damage your boots.

If you’re traveling by plane, boot carriers are also a carry on item which can count as your personal item and fit under the front seat.

If boot carriers are not your thing, you can still pack your boots with you. Taking boots inside regular luggage can be tricky because you need to make sure they’re not smashed or they might never recover their shape. A great way to prevent this is to simply pack all your socks and under garments inside your boots. This will guarantee they keep their shape and it will save you some space in your bag. We always suggest you fill your boots up even if in a boot carrier, to prevent them from losing their shape.

Packing hats:

19129Hats are probably the trickiest to travel with. Many people limit themselves to travel only with the hat they’re wearing, but that completely narrows down your options, especially if you’re traveling from a warm climate to a cold climate and viceversa. The best way to pack hats is in a hat carrier. Sure, they’re a little bulky and it might be another piece of luggage to check in, but at least it will ensure your hats will arrive in pristine condition. These are available in single, as well as double capacity, which we prefer because this is one of those situations in which more is more.

Whether you pick some or all of our tips, we hope they help you pack and enjoy your travel, wherever that may be.

Taking Care of Your Jeans

We’ve talked before about how to pick the best jeans for you and what the different fits all mean. Regardless of style or fit, all denim should be treated and cared for properly in order to ensure your jeans last for as long as possible.

No other garment is as widely accepted and loved all around the world as jeans are; They’re so versatile, comfortable (if you have the right fit for you), and easy to wear. So easy to wear, in fact, that we don’t give them a second thought when we put them in the wash, yet we hem and haw when they suddenly fit us  or look differently without realizing it’s really all our fault. The biggest misconception in clothing care is that jeans are to be treated just like any other garment.

Jeans needing special care does not mean it has to be complex or time consuming though, it just means different. We love our jeans and all the comfort and practicality they provide us, so below are the best 3 tips to keep your denim looking nice for as long as ours:

    • Lock in that beautiful wash. To maintain that nice looking color they had when you first got them you can soak them in vinegar. Yes, you read that right; mix one cup of distilled white vinegar to a cold water bath and soak your jeans for about an hour and then lay them flat to dry. The vinegar smell will go away, we promise. This will lock in that color and keep your jeanslooking newer for longer.
    • Wash them in cold cycle. Always.  If you must absolutely use your washer make sure you wash them in a cold cycle and inside out. Washing them inside out will help in keeping the color of your jeans looking nice and new and using the cold cycle will make sure your jeans don’t shrink, which leads us to our next tip.
    • Don’t ever use the dryer. Very few people actually realize that denim continues to shrink up to as many as 10 washes. Yes, you read that right. Some people size up when buying denim with the anticipation that they will shrink in the dryer, but they don’t realize just how much denim can actually shrink, which probably leads to a lot of confusion about how they feel they’ve gained weight even though the scale says they have not.  For this reason it is always better to just lay them flat to dry or drip dry. We promise you will see a huge difference and will never go back to using the dryer for your jeans.

We all have those “going out” jeans that really barely get dirty since they’re for that date night or special occasion. These jeans are likely also your most expensive ones and for those we would recommend you just freeze them. Yes, freeze them. I know, we were skeptical too but this trick, which is also used by museums for very old garments that can’t stand to be washed, actually works! Freezing your jeans means all the bacteria is killed without you having to damage them with water.

Whichever tip you choose to employ, we just hope your jeans provide you with the same exciting feeling from when you first bought them.

Ready for some great news? Here we go!

After months of work and research we are excited to share some great news. Urban Western Wear is proud to announce the launch of Western Wear Crate, our very own western clothing subscription service.

Through all of our years in business, our customer service has noticed through our live chats, phone calls, and e-mails received, that a lot of our customers want or need help deciding what to purchase or how to style their newly acquired outfits, and that is what Western Wear Crate is here to do.

This new service is an easy way to get the clothes you need without the hassle of shopping for yourself.

  • Tell us what you would like to get (shirt, pants, accessories, or all of the above)
  • Take a quick style quiz telling us what you like and don’t like and how much on average you like to spend on clothing
  • Sit back and wait for your clothes to be delivered to your house

Having a personal stylist is no longer something that just celebrities do. Each member of Western Wear Crate gets a personal stylist who will take the time to closely analyze your style quiz responses in order to find the clothes that best fit you. Your clothes are scheduled to be delivered to you monthly, but you can always change the setting to the amount of time that best works for you.

Once your box is delivered to you, try everything on and decide what you want to keep and send the rest back. When we hear from you about what you have decided to keep or return we’ll charge your credit card (never without your permission) for the cost of what you’re keeping. It’s really that easy.

Western Wear Crate is not the first clothing subscription box, but it is the only one that specializes in western wear. We understand the western lifestyle; we know that a cowboy hat is not a costume and that boots need to be a lot more than just cool looking. We also know that not all cowboys are the same, so all our stylists build each box with a lot care. They are always there to help you with your shopping needs and you can send them an e-mail and request special outfits if you have a specific occasion coming up (weddings, vacation, parties in general).

If you’re not completely convinced to give this a try yet, let us give you the top 3 reasons you should sign up for it today:

1.- There are no contracts. You do not have to commit and you can always send everything back if you are not happy with your box.

2.- Always free shipping. We ship it to you and you ship it back and we’ll never charge you for it.

3.- Convenient and always made specifically for you. Having items picked out for you does not mean you get things that don’t match your style so that convenience doesn’t mean you have to give up style.

Great Ideas to Enhance Your Country and Western Themed Wedding

Most little girls grow up dreaming about the day of their perfect fairytale wedding. You may have had every little detail of that dream wedding planned out before you even hit middle school, but the likes and dislikes of everyone change as they grow up. Today, you are just as likely to see brides and grooms dressed up as super heroes for their big day rather than in the traditional white dress and tuxedo. Themed weddings are all the rage, and one with a country and western theme is among the most popular. If this type of wedding is on your wish list, then here are a few ideas that can help you make it just perfect.

Add Some Country Flavor to Your Big Day

• Skip the Chairs: Forget about renting those expensive chairs, and consider using square bales of hay or straw for seating the guests at your outdoor wedding. Be sure to only use fresh bales that have been kept dry and are free of mice, snakes and other creepy crawlies. Your guests will love it, and you can still use decorations at the end of each aisle for a fancy touch.

• Switch Up the Altar: A nice, old-fashioned horse hitching post is a great spot to say your vows. Make sure it’s polished to the perfect shine, and the bride and groom can stand before it while the ceremony is performed. It’s also a perfect spot for wedding photos.

• Ditch Those High Heels: Every bride should have the perfect wedding dress, but you don’t necessarily have to wear high-heeled shoes to complete the ensemble. Instead, go shopping for the fanciest cowgirl boots. You may find the perfect ones to go with your dress, or you can always decorate those boots for a better match.

• Special Cake Toppers: Skip the traditional figurines of the bride and groom on top of your wedding cake, and go with something to fit your theme. You’ll be surprised what is available, and you can easily find figurines that depict the groom using a lasso to catch his bride and other fun country and western ideas.

• Replace the Veil With a Hat: Believe it or not, the perfect cowgirl hat is out there. Fix it up to match your boots and dress, and you will be the perfect country and western bride.

• Choose a Special Location: Not everyone gets married inside of a church, and you can select the perfect spot for your country and western wedding. A very popular choice would be a rustic barn surrounded by acres of lush crops. Others choose a large field next to a clear-running stream.

• No Limos Here: A beautifully-decorated wagon and a couple of gorgeous white horses may deliver you and your wedding party to the designated area. Even the harness for the horses may be festooned with colorful ribbons to honor the festive occasion.

Start Planning Today

You can never get too early of a start on your wedding plans. If you’re doing all of the hard work yourself, then get busy with these tips today. Those using a wedding planner should find one that has some past experience with this type of a themed wedding, so that you can be assured of getting exactly what you want on your special day.

Not All Jeans Fit the Same: How to choose the best pair of jeans for your body type

When choosing the perfect pair of jeans, we at Urban Western Wear recommend that you think more than your waist size and inseam. There are many different styles that you might consider to make sure your jeans are both comfortable and look great!

Waist Styles
When buying jeans, you’ll need to know your waist size, but beyond that, consider what kind of waist style, or ‘rise’, will be most comfortable and flattering to your figure.

The rise refers to where the waistband of your jeans fits on your torso, and is the measurement from the middle of the seam that goes between your legs to the top of the waistband. Low rise jeans generally fit best when worn at the hip, and some people call these ‘hip huggers’. Medium rise jeans, also referred to as mid-rise or natural rise, fit at your natural waist. High rise jeans are worn higher on the waist, above the belly button.

A medium or ‘natural’ rise is the most flattering style for most body types. For natural rise jeans, the waistband should sit an inch or two below the belly button. A higher waistband is referred to as high rise, and these are great for tall men and women, and for people who wish to avoid unsightly ‘muffin tops’. However, in some cases they can make you look frumpy and old fashioned, particularly if you have a shorter torso. Finally, low rise jeans work well for people with lean figures and slim hips.

Leg styles
There are two different pants leg styles you will commonly find in jeans: straight leg and bootcut. Straight leg jeans have the same leg width from the knee to ankle, while bootcut have a flare midway between the knee and ankle. As the name suggests, bootcut jeans are great if you’ll be wearing cowboy boots under your jeans, as the slight flare allows a little more room for the top of the boot. They can also help accentuate a woman’s natural curves.

Some brands may also feature skinny jeans, with legs that are cut much narrower than straight cut, often from the thigh all the way down to the ankle. These styles are made to fit close to the skin and look best on slimmer individuals.

Jeans cuts

With many brands of jeans you can choose between a classic (also known as ‘average’) fit, a relaxed fit or a slim fit. Relaxed fit styles are a more generous cut, and have extra room in the thigh area and seat, while slim fit are made to fit snugly. Classic jeans follow your body’s curves more than relaxed styles, but are not too tight. When choosing these cuts, it’s worth considering how your jeans will look and how comfortable they will be to wear. For working and active wear, the classic or relaxed fit will be more appropriate, while slim fit will be perfect for going out for a night on the town.

Brands

At Urban Western Wear, we carry several different brands of jeans. One brand we really like is the Cinch brand, which offers modern styling with a western edge. Cinch Carpenter jeans offer a low rise and relaxed fit, while the Fastback gives you a relaxed straight-leg style with a hot distressed denim look. And keep an eye out for the Grant and Ian styles of Cinch jeans, which we know will be a big hit. We also offer jeans from T. K. Axel, a company that has been around since 1865 and brings a vintage look to their products. The durable yet cutting-edge styles of Ariat jeans are also worth a look, particularly the Deadrun slim straight-leg jeans from Ariat.

Western Wear Accessories: The Essential Three

You’re rocking some Tin Haul boots, Cinch denim, and a pearl snap button-down.  Watch out, world!  You’re ready to step out!

Ummm…not yet.

“Accessories make the outfit” is an age-old fashion proverb, and it’s just as relevant in Western wear as on the runway.   And people, if you’re going to spend the time and effort pulling together the most stylish cowboy fashions available, why would you break this rule and neglect the finishing touches?
